Brief Astronomy Facts About Chiron
From an astronomical point of view, the little Chiron (pronounced kai-ron) is not a planet. Discovered in 1977 by Charles T. Kowal, it is a small body of the solar system situated between the orbit of planet Jupiter and the orbit of planet Neptune. With characteristics similar to asteroids and comets, it was included in the category of "centaur".
Chiron in Mythology
For Astrology, this planet is symbolized by the mythical centaur Chiron (the same one who lends his legend to Sagittarius). Half man, half horse, Chiron is seen by mythology as a great healer, astrologer and respected oracle.
Legend has it that, unlike the other centaurs, Chiron was intelligent, civilized, kind, and well-learned. One day, while trying to fend off other centaurs who were causing trouble, Heracles, son of Zeus, accidentally hit Chiron.
Although immortal, Chiron was mortally wounded and lived in agony. In the end, he renounced his immortality and godhood to end the pain and was raised to heaven as the constellation of Sagittarius.
Chiron came to symbolize the suffering and the trials that we must endure in life, but also the strength to face, fight and overcome the difficulties.
About Chiron in Astrology
SUFFERING. DILEMMA. RENOUNCE. FUSION. CURE.
Chiron is the last planet to be recognized by Astrology. Its highly eccentric orbit made it associated with the concept of the bridge that unites worlds, with integration between two realities, two opposites, with dilemmas.
Chiron takes eight years to transit in Aries, seven in Pisces, and six in Taurus. In Libra, it takes only 15 to 18 months. Despite this great irregularity, Chiron takes about 50 years to complete a cycle through the signs and around the Sun.
Chiron represents the union between instinctual "I" and self-awareness, the willingness to resolve dilemmas and personal paradoxes. However, given its recent discovery, its astrological significance is still under discussion.
Although the mythological Chiron faced a tragic end, by freeing himself from pain, he ascended to the stars where he was reconciled with his fate. For Astrology, this myth symbolizes that the trials that are imposed on us throughout life serve to incite us to raise our heads and fight.
Chiron's fatality reminds us of the growth potential that exists in all negative experiences. Everything that happens to us in a bad way can also be an opportunity for a new beginning.
Chiron and the Other Planets
Chiron has a parabolic orbit, meaning it crosses the orbits of other planets in the solar system. The small planet is strongly related to Saturn and Uranus, whose orbits cross from time to time. Therefore, it will relate and identify with the influences of these two planets - unlike the Moon Nodes that can be linked to the influence of Jupiter for the North Node and of Saturn for the South Node.
Chiron in Astrology - Personality and Birth Chart
In the astral map, Chiron's placement indicates everything that is necessary to integrate or eliminate from our life. By rejecting and leaving behind everything that doesn't matter, what weighs us down and hurts us, it is possible to find solutions to our personality's dilemmas and paradoxes.
This process becomes necessary for us to evolve as a person, to find new answers and rethink our life projects. Only then can we walk towards spiritual renewal and find a new personal balance.
