Capricorn is the tenth sign of the Zodiac. Member of the Cardinal quality, Feminine and Earth Element. Symbolized by the mythical sea goat, it is ruled by the planet Saturn. The Sun enters the sign Capricorn on the winter solstice around December 22nd and leaves around January 20th.
In Greek mythology, Capricorn is associated with the story of Pricus, the sea-goat, a mythological being, with the head and body of a goat and the tail of a fish. He lived near the sea and was recognized as an honorable and intelligent creature. Created by Kronos, the god of time, Pricus had the same ability to manipulate time.
From his marine realm, Pricus sadly saw that his sons drifted farther and farther from the sea as they swam to shore and remained on dry land. Over time, their children lost their tails, intelligence, the ability to speak and live in the sea. They were turning into normal goats. To prevent this from happening, Pricus reversed time and warned his children of the fate that awaited them on land, but his effort was in vain. His children continued to swim ashore and leave the sea.
Desolate, Pricus asked Kronos to end his immortality. Instead, he was placed in heaven as Capricorn's constellation. From there, he could continue to see his children, even when they played on the highest peak of the mountains. Capricorn reminds us of parental love and the importance of letting go.
