The Greek myth associated with Aquarius is the story of Ganymede, a handsome young prince of Troy. One day, while Ganymede was taking care of his father's flocks, he was spotted by Zeus who was bewitched by his virility and great beauty. Turning himself into an eagle, he kidnapped the boy and took him to Mount Olympus, turning him into his servant and lover.

Ganymede was the cupbearer of the gods, serving them drinks when asked. One day, Ganymede was revolted by his situation as a slave and Zeus, instead of punishing him, decided to grant him immortality and place him in the stars as the constellation of Aquarius.
